Elle Macpherson loses her head in London
EVEN outside the school gate, Elle Macpherson breaks style barriers.
The 44-year-old model turned fashion entrepreneur won the hearts of eco-warriors when she rode her bike to collect her younger son from school in London yesterday in fringed suede knee-high sandals.
It was her Amazon princess warrior-inspired footwear that had the other mums at the exclusive Notting Hill private school turning heads.
However, The Body, who runs the biggest-selling brand of designer lingerie in Britain, was not protecting her own head, nor that of her five-year-old son, Cy.
Neither rider sported a helmet during their journey home along London’s busy streets, as helmets for cyclists are optional in the UK.
In Sydney, both Elle and Cy would be issued fines of $53 each.
Wearing just a soft school hat, young Cy did not seem happy dodging traffic on the back seat of his mother’s bike.
Elle was also the only mother smiling at the pick-up zone, but that could have had more to do with envious glances from the other mums, dressed in last season’s summer tie-dye cotton dresses or daggy T-shirts.
Helmet hair is something Elle may have to get used to again if she plans to return to Australia to host a new upcoming reality TV show.
Macpherson, Jennifer Hawkins and Erika Heynatz are all rumoured to be hosting the show, Make Me A Supermodel, on the Seven Network.
Macpherson denied reports last week that she was moving from her luxury seven-storey estate in Notting Hill to live in Sydney with her sons.
She has lived at the estate – estimated to be worth $16 million – since 2006 after her relationship with her children’s father Arpad “Arki” Busson ended.
